Spring Water Main Flushing Program

Sugarloaf Water Association
Public Notice
Monday, June 2nd through Friday, June 13th, 2025
We will be conducting our Spring Water Main Flushing Program
HYDRANT FLUSHING
The Sugarloaf Water Association’s flushing program helps maintain high water quality by removing naturally occurring minerals such as iron and manganese that accumulate inside water pipes over time. Water main flushing uses the force of water—similar to power washing—to scour out the pipelines. This is done by opening fire hydrants and allowing high volumes of water to flow through the system.
During this period, customers may notice reduced water pressure and temporary water discoloration. Although the discoloration is not harmful, we recommend limiting water use for sensitive activities like laundry during flushing hours. If you experience discoloration, running a cold water tap for a few minutes should clear it up.
We also recommend regular preventive maintenance at home, such as draining and flushing your water heater annually and flushing household pipes after periods of non-use.
For any questions, please contact our office at (207) 237-6865, available seven days a week from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM.
